curly curly hallelujah

Hello again,
This time I'm speaking in regards to my curly hair. so, something special happened to me last night. I was shopping...for my hair stuff. it normally costs 14.50 a piece. well, when I asked the girl where it was, she said "actually it's been repackaged. the old packaging is on sale for 3.60 a bottle though!" my mind started freaking out. what!!! i'll take all you have i said. she pulled out six bottles. i think the two girls there thought i was kind of wacko. especially because i said "merry christmas to me" when she brought it to the counter. well anyway, it was fabulous. I got 6 bottles of hair stuff for litterally 20 dollars. that's it.

curly curly hallelujah

sly, but stupendously strong

well, it's about time we spend some time discussing Hercules, our newest christmas tree. What a handsome beauty. he's 6 feet tall and we only cut him a titch before installing him into the trusty tree stand. with the great tree skirt, he almost looks like a girl. but it's a man. And he drinks a lot, stands straight, and has a nice bow on top. colorful lights make it all great. oh, and josh finally put on his ornaments- a selection of caribiners. He's gotta have some man on him right? without those, I'd feel bad for cross dressing the tree. after all, I'm into the warm fuzzies...like putting a bow on top.
anyway, our little place is full of holiday cheer.

doug

well hello again,
I'm thinking about doug...the douglas fir christmas tree from last year who has probably rotted away by now. poor guy. he was really great. Not sure if we'll end up with another doug or if we'll be doing a frasier fir fred.....not even sure if smith's will have one of them.
anyway, here's the point. the only tree toppers i can find are too glittery or too ugly and cheap looking. and i even work at one of the greatest home decor shops ever. no help. i have a pretty good idea of what to do..but still, it'd be nice to find a tree topper to last throughout the Brown Family Christmas Tree's. Perhaps I need to call Penny Mcallister and have her design one specially for me. She's my favorite designer. Big problem though, she has actually passed away so I cannot contact her. but mayber her collections that i've already started collecting will fill my mind with an inspirational idea.
perhaps i have too much time on my hands.

good evening

HOT DIGGITY DOGS

imagine you are on the boat in the chocolate tunnel in the newest willy wonka movie...which, by the way, is exactly accurate with the book. anyway, instead of being on a spiraling chocolate river, you are spiraling deeper into the valleys of my brain. here you will find out the experience i had today at the grocery store while standing in front of the hot dogs as though i were choosing a diamond out of a million beautiful diamonds (which aren't as pretty as the one i have in real life)...thanks josh. ANYWAY, i was making pigs in a blanket for my girls night party that was themed as "bring your favorite birthday dish" and mine growing up was... you guessed it!...pigs in a blanket. my eyeballs saw the ballpark franks first...they must pay the most to have their dogs right in the first place people look. Then i saw the nathans hot dogs that looked good but they were skinny. then i saw oscar meyer "original wieners". hmm. no good. and by the way there is not to be any innuendo intended in this post...it just occurred to me that maybe boys...or girls...may think it's funny because i'm referencing weenies.
So, then i saw a fat free option. first of all, WHO EATS A FAT FREE HOT DOG. second of all, how can it be a hot dog and be fat free together? third of all, might as well eat a grape if you're going to choose the fat free style. same goes with the 98% at free version. those just have a 1/4 inch section that is fatty and the rest is not. apparently. then there were the turkey, chicken, and pork ones. NO. then i saw the ones free of nitrates and nitrites. NOW this one caught my attention. but it HAS to be stored at 40 degrees or less at ALL TIMES as they are not preserved. I instantly pictured all of us barfing up our food because we had eaten hot dogs that were on a 90 degree truck in transportation and therefore were bad due to the violation of the no-preservatives protection rule. So, of course that was a bad option too. how can i trust that those dogs were always at the right temp. you can't trust people these days...especially if you don't know who carried those from ball park frankfurters to the grocery shelf. THEN (and yes i've been standing here wondering if other people wonder why i'm standing in front of the hot dogs for so long), then i had to choose from oscar myer or ballpark. i went with the ALL BEEF BALLPARK...it was the one i remember most from commercials so they must be good right? and they were not too shabby. and THAT my friends, is the proper way to buy your hot diggity dogs.

feels good to have something legit to right about again.

a utah man am I

recent conversation has led to the glories of the Salt Lake Valley....primarily the East Bench.
Riding my bike from home up Millcreek Canyon is awesome
Horse back riding whenever we want is lovely too
Work 5 minutes away is easy
Skiing 6+ resorts just a short distance away has turned me into a wanna-be ski bum
having trails to hike, run, bike, and explore fills the weekends with wonder
and on and on and on and on and on....

Essentially, I have come to realize that the east bench of SLC is a perfect place for me. I love that it is perfectly complimentary to our lifestyle and it never gets boring. Because soon, we will get to play in snow! I have become rather satisfied with this gorgeous place and will continue to enjoy it for a long time...I think.
Lucky are we to be able to take advantage of the great outdoors!!

spooktastic

So, Halloween is coming...kind of.
And I am really happy with it because I have some cute things to put in our apartment that sort of make it cheery and festive. Also, Josh has been catching GINORMOUS spiders and keeping them in a jar where they attack and kill each other. It was pretty awesome...not! It was sitting on our floor for two weeks. I promise our place is clean, we just like to save the spiders we find right? Well, unfortunately for those killer crawlers, they were put to rest in the garbage can...still in the jar so as not to let them escape and come back to what they think is their home (which is really our home).
So, in their remembrance, I am looking forward to a ghoulish Halloween. What does ghoulish mean? It sounds like a festive word. What I am really excited for is a new live Christmas tree that I can love, water, name, and take care of through the upcoming lovely seasons. What a joyous time of year we have to look forward to.

Soon we will be photographing all the fall colors. Well, Josh will be photographing and I will be cheering.

Okay,
Boo!

words per minute

Well well well,
it probably makes your day better to know that I type 94% faster than the average person. Thanks to an online typing test (that i heard about from Real Simple magazine) I tested with a speed of 86 words per minute....
and apparently I save 5 hours a week if I type for 10 hours a week.
Unfortunately, I do not spend my free time typing. However before I made my way to afternoon kindergaten, I would sit on the blue screen of my dad's computer and practice my typing. Not sure I could spell at the time so I'm pretty sure I typed 120 words per minute.
Perhaps I should become a prfessional typest or something. Would anyone hire me to type their thoughts? NO
So, for now, I'll work on perfecting my score and this blog took me approx. one minute to write because there are 86 words.

batteries not included

fixing your car is like buying a super awesome toy, like tickle me elmo, and it comes without batteries. and when you buy the batteries, you have to buy several packages to get one of each kind. but once you open them, you have to have a backup pair because turning it on sucks out the life of the first set instantly. so, when you put in the second pair, you have to buy a guarantee to make sure they don't break. then you have to go back and get a different tickle me elmo to replace the first one that already died.

that's what it felt like fixing my car over the past 2 weeks. it's only 2 years old...and i take care of my things. lame lame lame

also,
i had a marvelous moment with josh as we were taking a stroll through tanner park (dog park)...i learned to whistle. i never have really tried and suddenly, i made a whistle noise (for 1815th of a second) and we looked at each other alarmed, gave a hive five, and kept walking. seeing new borns doesn't make me want babies, but seeing a puppy makes me want a dog. ...and a house to have a backyard to put the dog in...and money to pay for the food for the dog...and a babysitter for the dog for when we leave town.
so, i guess we'll stay here for now.

evolution

So,
Life is changing and evolving and I believe that evolution is somewhat real. I LOVE my job...9-5 is miraculous. I get to make dinner and chill-out and work a full day without getting home at night. Josh and I take advantage and try to "adventure" as much as possible. These adventure options include: heading up a canyon, making something good for dinner, watching a show we like together (i.e. "superhumans"), swinging on the swings that are in our backyard (awesome) or putting sweats on because our basement is 65 degrees 24/7.
My best friend returned home and I was so happy I cried. That's not weird right? Because I had no control...it happened and it was a magnificent reunion. I look forward to adventures ahead.
There is potential to take a weekend trip in the future...and it's been an adventure trying to pick a place to go. We'd like to go 4 places at once...maybe we'll get a Winnebago (sp???) to travel in one day.
Eating life cereal is very complementary to writing this blog...sort of.

Go ahead, let your life evolve.

8.12.2010

time to party

Well, Josh is gone...and it's great!! I've been running around (literally) trying to whistle and playing my ipod really loud, songs by Chicago to be exact. Then I had a fiesta when I made nachos for dinner with some nice, homemade guac. THEN, I walked over to the redbox to rent a movie and watch it by myself...on the couch. Hmmm...then, I had some icecream.
And before I start the movie I did 4 minutes of jumping jacks..it's been great.
Josh is riding horses for today and tomorrow...

and this is all a lie.
Obviously, I'm not doing anything, especially since I'm writing on this blog.

working with antelope

Well, this weekend was nothing short of INCREDIBLE. It started off with me making it official- I now have a full-time job and I am super excited about it. 9-5 here we come! Then, we started Saturday off with the good 'ol farmers market..nearly burned us up. had a great time looking and running back the car's AC. Thanks Suba...my long lost name for the Subaru. Kinda ugly name, from now on I'll think of a new one:)
Then we went to the grocery store TOGETHER!! yahoo!! and josh poked around REI...second best place aside from the mountains and Hawaii. Then, we went to pick up some wild flower photos that josh printed and they turned out fantastic. It is our new hallway art...by the way..while you're at it, look at his website....because he is an extremely talented photographer-getting better with each adventure! (www.joshuabrownphotography.blogspot.com)
Oh! two of those photos are going to be my happy things to add to the desk I will now have!
Then, we headed straight out to ANTELOPE ISLAND....which actually, is really really exciting! The weather provided for some seriously intense sky, wind, colors, and sunset views. We saw bison 3 feet from the car. Good thing it didn't trample us because Suba would for sure be a goner...
We saw antelope (luckily, otherwise we would have complained about Antelope Island having no antelope), and a coyote was just strolling down the side of the road.

We finished it off with an irreplaceable view of the sunset above the lake...you would have thought you were in Hawaii...except for the awful smell.

The Brown adventures are slowly becoming hard to beat.....we are happy.

7.25.2010

haircuts and holidays

Well, Josh cut his hair short, and so did I....to my shoulders to be exact. hmmm it was probably like 8 inches...even enough to donate i bet. And did I look at the pile of hair on the floor as I left the salon? NOpe....because I forgot. Shoot. I wish I had...because then I could actually answer everyones question as to how much hair I cut off. It's definitely a HUGE change but I love it!!!

and the 24th of July always provides a great opporunity to go up to Alta, hike through the incredible wild flowers, and witness two HUGE BULL MOOSE eating...lovely.

7.22.2010

10Ks

Josh brings up a good point....who on earth pays to run on a road you can run on for free?? Hmm..good question. Well, I really enjoy running the 24th of July 10K...even when I have to spend a wopping 38 bucks to do it! Really?! 38 dollars. wow. And thousands of people do it. what sucks us in? maybe the t-shirt that I never like? Maybe the water breaks they provide for you...and last year they only had one at mile 5 (which is HORRIBLE if you know the difference between a well-run event and a poorly-run event). Or maybe it's the fact that you get a time chip for your shoe so your race time is quite accurate- but when you cross the finish, if you forget to return the chip, you will be fined down the road. Or maybe it's all the people who sleep out on the parade route and cheer you on the entire way!! That's actually a fun part. Or, maybe it's the fact that it's all down-hill except for the last mile. Well well well, why is it that all thousands of us spend a fortune to run on the pavement for 45 minutes (hopefully) just to cross the finish line, maybe get a "free" water, have only one water break that tastes like hose water, and return the cool time chip? Perhaps it's because we are all too competitive not to participate. and when you get your time reported, it will show up in the newspaper and you just hope to run fast enough to show up the other 23 year-olds you may know in the age group.

I have run the 10K on the 24th probably 5 times now, and it's fun every year. Everyone is excited, racing, and being cheered on by a bunch of crazy sleepyheads who sort of slept on the sidewalk. yeah, it's expensive.....but it's too fun to quit.

Cheers

the south

Heading to southern utah soon....
let's hope a REAL summer is happening down there. when we have 4 days in a row of 80 degrees then maybe I'll believe it's time to go outdoors, have campfires, bbq's, and 6:30am runs. Anywho, we've been MIA but I must admit it's been fun.

adios

sharing a laundry machine

So,
We live below several guys who are in love. It's not a huge deal...except for when they party at the strangest hours, take my laundry out of the washer the second it is done and start their own luandry and start mine in the drier (we just got home from vacation and i NEED to get laundry done). oh, and it's not a big deal when we have to park 4 houses down either. they are actually really cute, size 29 waists, loud, annoying, and like I said, in love. I reccommend living below some when you can.

It's a blast.

5.18.2010

warmth

I have been assigned the topic of warmth.
Thought number one...an obsession has started over candles. Perhaps it's because the rays of sunshine and fresh air that normally filter through the half-torn screens are being replaced by synthetic candle flames due to crummy weather. Fresh air always smells good...going through candle aromas like TP is a bit intensive.
Thought number two...Warmth is the perfect temperature. Hot, as in waking up in a dead, wet, sweat in the middle of the eve is just rediculous. But cozy warmth is great. what makes the difference? Oh right, an open window...letting in FRESH beautiful air. But when the weather is rainish, an open window doesn't bring warmth.
Thought number three...Apple pie.
Thought number four...Flowers in orange, red, white, pink, some blue, and bright green....nothing better than fresh blooms on the table.
Thought nuber five...a bike ride up millcreek canyon = warmth because "progress is only made when walking upstream"

an orange a day brings a sunshine ray.
bye

run to the bank

so, i discovered today that going on a run and stopping at the bank while on the run is cool. it's because when you walk in from running and have no time to cool off, you suddenly feel like you walked into a rediculously warm place and you start dripping AS the guy asks you to sign here here and here. then you feel like you're probably steaming and you have to take your forearm and swipe it across your forehead to absorb the sweat...but oh wait! you're running gear is not cotton so it doesn't really absorb..it whicks. so it probably just whicked your sweat onto their desk. you say thanks, leave, and keep running faster now that you deposited hard cash into the computer.
try it.
by next fall, it'll be as big as peep toe flats.

4.08.2010

here comes the sun

Here come's the sun...do do do do...
that song is just full of happiness ...
with a beautiful day, pondering occured while driving to the Murray Senior Center.
Happiness comes bountifully when the sun is shining and the weather is pleasant.
Happiness is felt when the windows are down and my hair is blowing out the window.
Happiness is absorbed when great songs are streaming from the ipod in the car.
Happiness is tasted when fresh pineapple is cut.
Happiness is painted in the bright blue sky.
Pure happiness comes from a beautiful snowfall with a spring day to follow.
Joy is experienced with family.
Excitement is found in breathing fresh air and opening the windows at home while cooking.
Sweet pleasure is found on the ski slopes.
Energy is pumped out of outdoor exercise....like riding a bike up millcreek.
Nature provides an opportunity to love.
The great outdoors are greater than you think.
Remembering happens through the keys of a piano.

Embracing life is simple...all you have to do is look for the sun.

in the near future.

When I say in the near future, i can't explain how near 'near' is...but it's coming. and once near gets here, we will find ourselves with the ideal dog...it's a special kind but it's also secretive so it's not going to be revealed. it will compliment our lifestyle and will make our lives even happier. and also, when near arrives we will have a sofa that puts our bed and floor to shame. also, we will have the same artwork that we have now because it makes us feel happy. and also, i may find myself with a food processor. but for now, our sofa is great and our dogless lifestyle is becoming perfected before we get a dog and the food processor isn't ready for our counters and the weather is good.

GOGGLE TANS AND FRENCH FRIES

So, if you haven't had a goggle tan...then you're not cool. Sorry. But you still have a chance to become cool since spring skiing started on Saturday. I'm proud to say that we were there for the ribbon cutting and soaked up the sun, becoming cool as our goggle tans formed. nothing better...truly- nothing is better. getting french fries from the best place on earth only made the day cooler...which made us cooler...because we were at the ribbon cutting for spring. anyway, getting some other new things officially made the day the coolest first day of spring yet. And since then, the following days of spring have put springs in our steps.

Remember, goggle tans and french fries are all that is required to have a good life.

real simple...really??

So, I just received my first magazine....REAL SIMPLE. it was a gift. i'm very excited. but I HAVE BEEN DECEIVED. it is not real simple as in really simple...it's thick, loaded, busy with all sorts of exciting things. they must have named it real simple to get you excited for it's simplicity. it's going to take me 3 1-hour read throughs to see everything...which means you get more for your money right. it is someone else's money though becase it was a gift, like i said.

life in scholastic land

So, more talk about diets. I'm letting out my frustration by telling people that they are stupid if they diet and are told not to exercise...or if they diet and think it will work...or if they diet and think they will keep the weight off...or if they diet and inject themselves with things...

yes i said people who do this are stupid...and I mean it and I am not afraid to say it.
I am a nice person, but if people avoid doing research and keep getting sucked into things that are unreliable, then I don't feel sorry for them.

However, I am willing to be friends with people on diets...phew!

This is what happens when you minor in Nutrition or talk about fitness everyday.

lifting...

I go to the lifting class at the gym. It's interesting because it is not like any other lifiting class you've been too. This february, they changed it up and now it's crazy. we started out by lifting machines in the main gym area and moving them around. Apparently they needed our help in rearranging a few things so they figured we could do it instead of our warmup??? weird. THEN our crazy teacher had us partner up and we took turns piggy backing each other around the edges of the classroom. but it doesn't stop there. we did some regular lifting stuff with freeweigths and barbells. his next idea for us was to line up 5 feet from each other and he had the first person pick him up and pass him down the line...SO we each had to carry the TEACHER for like 5 feet and hand him off to the next person. we had to do push-ups after that till the last person was done. weirdest weirdy class in the world. I'll stick with back bends in yoga.

beware that a "lifting" class means you lift....anything.

Well well well,
betcha didn't know I can design amazing kitchens.
Yup,
I drew ours up last night. Exclusively ours...for our upcoming home we've been drawing up in our heads. It's almost too amazing to exist so we just figured we'd hang a picture of it in our appartment under the gay's.

Living this way is nice.
Especially when EVERY SINGLE time you turn the shower on, someone turns theirs on upstairs within 3 seconds. It's seriously disturbing.
So, we've decided to stop showering. Sponge baths at the kitchen sink are new and cooler than you think they are.

wait...we live by the mountains?

Okay, for all of you who know me...I am AWFUL with directions. I could be in Japan, and think i'm close to home ( as in 15 minutes away) because the street looks familiar. I would NOT survive if left out in the wild. And all the sudden, I'm driving today and I say "WHOA!!! I had NO idea those mountains were so close!!!" Are you kidding? I've never seen the mountains. Perhaps it's because we have been in a foggish state for about a month that leaves us breathless and dirt-filled lungs. hmmm . I get it. It's not that I never knew we lived by the mountains, I have just forgotten after all this time of living in a dirty mist filled wonderland. And WE ARE FREE!!!! the weather is just so beautiful I could yell yippee from my driveway front door.
Oh heavens, thank you for opening and spilling some freshness.

1.16.2010

weather report...

Well, we saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and it's splendid. I have decided that it is more likely we will have meatballs fall out of the sky before the snow flakes fall. Additionally, Groundhogs Day is happening (like the movie) becasue EVERDAY the dang weather guy says, still smoggy, still red day, still having health advisories, and NO snow coming anytime soon. BUT there is a storm coming up in a couple days that will happen over night and you may not be able to see, hear, or feel the potential rain BUT it may lift some of the inversion away. BUT don't worry because by the time you wake up, the inversion will be building again:) oh geeze, i've never seen such lame, boring, and unexciting weather reports last so long. I swear there is nothing new to talk about yet they discuss the weather every 5 minutes. Like any of us need to know about the updates. All we know is that you can't really breath when you go out which means you can't run (i'm dying here) and limit your driving. how do you limit your driving when you can only get places by driving because you will die if you walk. oh man oh man oh man. SO i expect the bad inversion to turn the air into meatballs before we see any snow.

Going back to school is a nice thing. it makes you feel smart and you get smart and your brain cells swell with knowledge and happiness. Especially when you get to do an internship at an old person Senior Center. How wonderfully exciting. Graduation will be nice, but I don't really want to graduate because what will happen when my brain cells shrink up?? My face will suck inward through my nose and then I really won't get a job!!! OH brother...So, I will buy those books you get inbetween 4th and 5th grade to challenge your math skills as you prepare for the next level...I'm going to do that after I graduate so I won't go unsmart.

It's almost Valentines ..
